Sand Flow Controller

A sand/water slurry is pumped through a pipe mounted on pontoons.
An Ultrasonic Sensor calculates the percentage of sand in the slurry by measuring the height of the pipe above the water surface. The pontoon will sink deeper for higher sand/water ratio.

A Doppler flow meter converts the flow signal to 4-20mA. The desired flow rate is 0.3 meters per second in a 12” diameter pipe. The flow meter output is 4-20mA represents .0-0.5 m/sec.

The engine governor is controlled by an actuator, which gives a controlled RPM range to match the load.

The USC701 is;
Continuously calculating the amount of sand in the pipe and then producing a tons/hour flow rate of the sand.
A PID control system that sets flow in the pipe (set-point SP), PID signal operates an “increase” (relay RLY1) or “decrease” (relay RLY2) outputs operating in PWM mode.

Hot keys

  • UP Displays the flow (CH1) in m/sec
  • DOWN Displays the set point.
  • BACK Displays OUT%: indicates the required output from the PID control.
  • NEXT Displays the tons/hour flow rate of the sand.
  • UP + DOWN Displays the weight/m of sand (CH2).

To tune the PID system refer to MA70217 accessible from the AM702 product page
